Trail Side Ranch in the Iguana region of Guanacaste Province is the kind of place that reminds you how big and beautiful Costa Rica really is.
This ranch is huge — more than 300 acres — and it truly goes on and on. The landscape has that dry chaparral feel, but it’s alive and full of character. Wide skies, rolling terrain, open space, and the kind of quiet that lets you actually think.
It’s a working ranch, not a staged experience. You’ll see cows grazing, a mule with personality, chickens wandering freely, and turkeys doing their thing. There’s real ranching going on here — you feel it the moment you arrive.
They offer horseback rides across the property, which is one of the best ways to experience the land. Riding through those open hills makes you feel like you’ve stepped into old Costa Rica. There are also endless hiking trails where you can explore for hours, take in the scenery, and just disappear into the landscape.

Do tours and activities run rain or shine?
Yes — we operate rain or shine. Rain ponchos are available for purchase if needed.
What should I bring or wear for horseback tours and hiking?
Closed-toe shoes, a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a reusable water bottle. Long pants are recommended for horseback rides.
Is there a minimum age for activities?
No strict minimum — all ages are welcome with adult supervision. Parents decide what’s appropriate for children.
Do I need previous horseback riding experience?
No — all levels are welcome. Our calm horses and experienced guides provide full instructions and support.
Are there restrooms and showers available?
Yes — public restroom and shower facilities are located at the check-in area (about a 7-minute walk from the camping spots).
What kind of camping setup is allowed?
We welcome tents, RVs, and campers. There are no hookups — no electricity, sewage, or dump station. It’s a fully off-grid experience.
Is there Wi-Fi or cell service at the ranch?
Free Wi-Fi is available at the check-in area only. Cell service is limited or spotty in the camping area — plan to disconnect and enjoy the peace.
How do I pay and check in?
All payments are cash only upon arrival (exact change appreciated). Check in at the driveway (800 meters north of Escuela El Chile on Calle La Cusuca) — pay upfront, and we’ll guide you to your spot or start your tour.
